Modern BOM

I really loved doing the Modern BOM on Sew Mama Sew.

It was such a fun sampler and really helped me to think outside of the box. I finished this baby, but haven't had the chance to quilt it just yet. I have about three tops finished and just need to quilt them. Hopefully after the holidays I can get right on that :) 

I wasn't a big fan of the improv block so I tried my hand at paper piecing. My friend Diane From the Blank Pages is an amazing paper piecer :) and pattern maker. I loved her Double Star Pattern and she has a fantastic step by step tutorial for it. It really made paper piecing not so scary. I'm super excited because I get to see her in a few days - I can't wait :) I made some great friends at the The Sewing Summit and she was one of them and our roomie.

I would love to turn several of these blocks into quilts of their own. someday.

Modern Block of the Month

This is the September Modern Block of the Month. 

I skipped this one back in September because I was scared of doing   triangles.  Tuesday I conquered my fear with the farmer's block. So I took a stab at it and I think it turned out pretty good. 

It's amazing to me that this is what it starts out looking like and then it transforms into something so different. I really have enjoyed this block of the month so much and can't wait until the next one comes out. Alissa is one talented lady for sure! If you haven't been to her blog, go check it out and get ready for some inspiration. I had a slight headache when I was working on this one, so some of the points didn't line up exactly right. I think I will try it again later.

Modern Block of the Month

First I want to apologize for the dark pictures. It gets dark so early now. There are a lot of photos in this post so be warned :) I have been waiting for the new November block of the month and it finally got here! As you know over at Sew Mama Sew they have been doing the Modern Block of the Month. The whole month of November they did Handmade Holidays which was awesome! So we get two blocks in December - YAY!!! It was well worth the wait. This is going to be a super cool sampler quilt. There are several blocks that I'm going to use as a whole quilt, this is one of them.
